Metal Finish Trends 2026: What Designers Are Specifying

Warm metals hold the lead

The decade-long swing from cool chrome toward warm metallics is not reversing. Gold and brass tones remain the default accent in premium residential and hospitality work — but the specification is maturing: less mirror, more brushed and satin, tones a step quieter than the showroom golds of a few years ago. Champagne and soft bronze are the beneficiaries.

Black consolidates as the neutral

Black hardware has completed its journey from statement to standard. The 2026 refinement is texture: matte and micro-textured blacks that hide fingerprints are displacing gloss, especially in kitchens and door hardware where the surface is touched constantly.

Mixed metals, deliberately

The one-metal-per-room rule is gone. Designers are pairing black frames with gold infill, bronze handles on champagne panels, gunmetal legs under warm-toned tops — and PVD's batch consistency is quietly what makes mixed-metal schemes deliverable, because every component arrives in exactly the tone specified.

Durability is becoming a design value

The strongest trend is not a colour at all. Clients increasingly ask how a finish ages — sustainability pressure and simple experience with worn plated hardware have made longevity part of the aesthetic brief. Finishes that keep their day-one appearance for years are being specified as the luxury, which is the ground PVD was built on.

The classics that stay

Polished gold for heritage and sacred work, stainless silver tones for kitchens and clinical spaces, bronze for anything meant to feel established. Trends move around these; they do not move them.
